Making Waves of Art for Parkinson Awareness

Welcome to where we're making waves to splash awareness about Parkinson's disease.

My name is Kristen Schonfelder and I discovered art in the beginning stages of Parkinson's as a way to calm my tremors.

This proved to be a great theory and although I do get lost in my art, the tremors are still there.

I grew up in Huntington Beach, CA with salt in my hair and sand between my toes.

Dreaming of surfing like Laird Hamilton, Eddie Aikau, and all the great surfers in my youth.

The passion I have for living an unlimited life is what I strive for.

Unfortunately, it's the limits of this disease that keeps me from regaining a relationship with my board.

Discovering art was and still is a gift wrapped up in a gray ribbon.

I was diagnosed at 43 years old and although very young to have this disease, it is not as uncommon as people may think.

Art has brought back the hope that Parkinson's briefly took away.

I am blessed to have the support of friends and family and also my new family, as we fondly refer to each other as they "shaky" bunch.

Thank you to all of you for cheering me on with each new piece I posted.

It gave me the courage to get HERE!

I am so excited to share my galleries and my surf art designs with you.
